Guangzhou Huali College and the University of Barcelona have formalized a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral educational cooperation

On June 25, 2024, Guangzhou Huali College hosted an online meeting with the University of Barcelona (UB) in Spain, during which a bilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed.

The University of Barcelona delegation included Professor David Peguero Manzanares, Director of Development Cooperation at the School of Tourism Management (Centro de Estudios Técnicos de Turismo, CETT), along with Ms. Bella Sun, Ms. Rebecca Chen, and Ms. Claudia Wu, faculty members from the International Department of CETT. The Guangzhou Huali College delegation consisted of Professor Shuze Tang, Dean of the International College, Dr. Wenzhen Mai, Assistant to the Dean, and Ms. Jingxiang (Cecilia) Chen, faculty member in charge of Spanish language projects. The meeting was moderated by Ms. Jingxiang Chen.

Dean Shuze Tang opened the meeting by expressing gratitude and extending a warm welcome to Professor David Peguero Manzanares and the other representatives from the University of Barcelona. He provided a brief overview of Guangzhou Huali College, highlighting its geographical location, development history, institutional scale, academic focus, and achievements in internationalization. Particular emphasis was placed on the International School of Guangzhou Huali College, which is unique in China as the only private university offering full English-language instruction across all programs.

Dean Tang underscored the institution's commitment to the "high-quality development of internationalized education" within the International School. He reiterated the college’s strong support for fostering international cooperation with top-tier universities globally, aiming to provide students with enhanced opportunities to broaden their international perspectives, improve cross-cultural competencies, and become global citizens. Additionally, Dean Tang presented the seven existing "all-English taught majors" offered by the International School of Guangzhou Huali College: Business Administration, Accounting, International Economics and Trade, Economics and Finance, Computer Science and Technology, International Journalism, and Network and New Media. Among these, the management-related disciplines were identified as particularly ripe for future collaboration with CETT’s programs.

Director David Peguero Manzanares expressed his gratitude to the representatives of Guangzhou Huali College for joining the online meeting and commended the international character of the International School of Guangzhou Huali College. He then provided a brief overview of the history and academic focus of CETT-UB, highlighting that Guangzhou Huali College is the first university in Guangdong province, China, to collaborate with CETT-UB. He also shared his enthusiasm for future bilateral cooperation.

Subsequently, in the presence of representatives from both institutions, Dean Shuze Tang and Director David Peguero Manzanares signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of their respective parties. This marks the beginning of a collaborative partnership between the two universities in areas such as talent development, academic exchanges, and research cooperation. Moving forward, both sides will work to promote the sharing and complementarity of educational resources through initiatives like student exchanges, faculty visits, academic activities, and project collaborations. This partnership aims to create opportunities and platforms for cultivating high-quality talent with a global perspective and cross-cultural communication skills, while also enhancing the international influence of both universities in the field of global education.

It was originally a leading higher education school for tourism and hotel education affiliated to the University of Barcelona. It was officially incorporated into the University of Barcelona in 1997. The school focuses on the development of tourism management expertise and teaching and research in the fields of tourism and hotel. CETT ranks first among tourism management schools in Spain.
